District Attorney’s Office Legal Assistant
The 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Montezuma County is accepting resumes for a full time Legal Assistant. Applicant must have professional office experience and be comfortable in a digital environment. Previous legal experience preferred but not required. Rate: $20.20/hr – $22.60/hr
FLSA: Non-exempt
Job Description:
1. Answer phones. Assist defendants, victims, and the general public.
2. Periodic errands and pick-ups. Company vehicle provided.
3. Disseminate paperwork to appropriate staff.
4. Open Court cases. Which includes running criminal histories and entering case info into a database.
5. Calendar court dates and properly maintain files for docket. This may include but not limited to ensuring all information is collected from LE and case is properly prepared for attorney’s court hearing.
6. Prepare cases for jury trial which includes but is not limited to filing Discovery Notices, Witness Lists, creating a trial notebook and printing or duplicating evidence.
7. Order certified driving records.
8. Run criminal histories and Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) records.
9. File motions and other documents with county court.
10. Prepare and disseminate discovery.
11. Close out files and prepare disposition sheets.
12. Participate in cross training.
13. Maintain time sheets.
14. Attend staff meetings and in-house trainings.
15. Occasional out of town trainings (mileage, per diems, and other expenses provided)
16. Other duties as may be directed by the Office Administrator or the District Attorney or his designee.
