West Nile Virus Detected in Colorado Mosquitoes
West Nile virus (WNV) has been detected in mosquitoes in Colorado for the first time this season in Boulder, Delta, Larimer, and Weld counties. West Nile virus is most commonly spread to people by the bite of an infected Culex mosquito.
Prevention:
The best way to prevent West Nile is to protect yourself from mosquito bites. Use insect repellent, wear long-sleeved shirts and pants, treat clothing and gear, and take steps to control mosquitoes indoors and outdoors. Limit outdoor activity when mosquitoes are most active at sunrise and at sunset.
