Montezuma County is accepting applications for a Part time Landfill Scale Attendant.

 

Summary:  Under direct supervision of Office Manager, provides clerical and reception type support for the baling and landfill operations including both manual and computer ticketing functions.

 

Salary and Benefits

$16.73 per hour, 18 hours a week. Part-time sick leave accrual of 1 hour per every 20 hours worked.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under direct supervision of Office Manager, provides clerical and reception type support for the baling and landfill operations including both manual and computer ticketing functions.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operates the landfill scale, computer, cash register and related office equipment;

  • Determine the appropriate fees for solid waste disposal in accordance with approved rate schedules, and accounts for receipts;

  • Direct landfill patrons to appropriate dumping areas;

  • Notifies equipment operators or Operations Chief of suspicious loads requiring special inspections;

  • Notifies patrons of unacceptable materials found in loads requiring additional charges or clean up.

  • Answer telephone and directs incoming calls;

  • Reconcile cash in cash register/box at end of day;

  • Perform basic janitorial duties in the main office area (including the files storage and manager’s office as well as the restrooms) such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and emptying trash,

  • May be required to calculate incoming/outgoing weights and associated rates utilizing a calculator in the event of computer failure, and

  • Perform related duties as required.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL FACTORS

  • May be exposed to varying weather conditions, and potential exposure to hazardous and/or toxic waste, especially odors and dust;

  • Work conditions are typically in an office setting and include sitting (up to 4 or more hours per day), standing, walking, bending, and some physical work, exerting up to 40 pounds of force for some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects.

  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.

  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with customers and other employees.

  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception for operating computers and cash drawer and far vision and depth perception for observing vehicles, personnel and other activity on site.

  • Must have finger dexterity to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, 10-key adding machine, multi-line touch tone phone, filing cabinets, facsimile (fax) machines, photocopiers, dolly and other office equipment as needed.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to charge correct amounts according to established rates table, to operate cash register, and to operate computer software to perform essential functions (Word, Excel, Access database are software programs used).

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

 

MANDATORY PROGRAM PARTICIPATION

  • This position requires participation in the county drug and alcohol testing program

  • This position requires use of safety and personal protective equipment (when outside office).
