POSITION CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Driver for MoCo Public Transportation
REPORTS TO: Transit Manager

DIVISION: Montezuma County Public Transportation
LOCATION: 109 West Main St. Ste 170, Cortez, CO
SALARY: $16.50/hour plus sick leave benefit
- SUMMARY: Montezuma County Public Transportation provides on-demand transportation to residents of Montezuma County. Drives a van or bus, in a safe manner, over a scheduled route to transport individuals to and from senior services, human services, medical facilities, grocery stores, drug stores, recreational sites, and other desired locations. The position is 25 hours a week, with varied hours Monday-Friday.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (other duties as assigned)
- Drivers will get out of the vehicle and assist the client from the client’s door to the vehicle. From the vehicle to the door of the client’s destination, when necessary.
- Drivers are to wear their seat belts at all times. Drivers are to assist clients with the seat belts if needed, make sure all clients wear their seat belts until the vehicle comes to a complete stop.
- Drivers will secure all mobile devices (scooters and wheelchairs) properly and will assist clients with the seat belt.
- Drivers are to keep the vehicles clean, inside and outside.
- Performs work in the operation of a vehicle to assure safe transportation of clients to and from various destinations and to assist clients on entry and exit from vehicles or doorway as necessary
- Demonstrates a positive attitude and using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with drivers, other employees, officials, and all members of the general public
- Work involves personal contact with the aging and disabled population and requires the ability to relate to all clients effectively and with patience.
- Work requires a willingness to follow all county, state, and federal regulations and their policies and procedures
- Must maintain a variety of records in a concise and accurate manner
- Due to the vulnerable population served, a CBI criminal background check is required
- Assists passengers in riding lift and in securing wheelchairs and other mobility devices
- Responsible to maintain required records, such as hours of vehicle operation, purpose of trip, number of passengers, mileage, special transit forms, and vehicle maintenance
- Assumes responsibility for care and maintenance of vehicle; makes daily inspections and submits requests for maintenance and repair when needed
- Collect donations and fares submit to Administrative Assistant daily
- Drivers must follow all rules and regulations set forth by Colorado Department of Transportation, and other grantors, Montezuma County Handbook

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have the ability to certify in special needs assistance training, defensive driver training, CPR and first aid
- Must take and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, as well as at random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol tests.
- Must pass physical screen from licensed practitioner
- Physical exertion required: frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, sitting, twisting, and standing
- General dexterity and audiovisual acuity required
- Maintain a neat and clean appearance at all times
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License required with an acceptable driving record for the past three years
- Defensive driving and passenger assistance training is preferred but may be obtained through county training after entry into employment
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred, but may be obtained through county training after entry into employment
- Pre-employment UA, varied background checks, must pass a physical
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Must have at least 5 years of driving experience and have a clean driving record.
- High school diploma or its equivalent
LANGUAGE ABILITY:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine accident/incident reports and correspondence.
MATH ABILITY:
- Ability to calculate figures and time sheets correctly.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving the behavior of clients on your vehicle.

While performing the duties of this job the employee will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. They will be expected to drive in adverse weather conditions. The work environment can be demanding.
