Get Flood Ready Elevation Certificates

It has come to Montezuma County’s attention that many homeowner’s insurance companies have sent notices requiring a floodplain elevation certificate. Montezuma County does not create elevation certificates. Elevation certificates can only be produced by a licensed Surveyor, Engineer, or Architect and require a professional stamp.

Within unincorporated areas of Montezuma County, for new construction or substantial improvements, including septic, you must submit proof of compliance with the Montezuma County Floodplain Resolution 13-2008 and obtain a floodplain development permit if the property is within FEMA-designated Floodplain.

Floodplain maps are accessible online at https://montezumacounty.org/ using the Montezuma County Map Viewer.
