RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF IHE PATHS TO MESA VERDE TRAIL PROJECT_ CPW NON-MOTORIZED
TRAILS GRANT
WHEREAS, the Paths to Mesa Verde is a proposed non-motorized trail project that would connect
Cortez, Mancos, and Mesa Verde National Park; and
WHEREAS, the Paths to Mesa Verde trail project would promote outdoor recreation, provide safe
bicycle and pedestrian connections between communities, and support economic development related
to outdoor tourism in the region; and
WHEREAS, the Paths to Mesa Verde trail project requires coordination and partnership between
Montezuma County, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Mesa Verde National Park,
and other stakeholders; and
WHEREAS, the Paths to Mesa Verde trail project would require capital funding for design and
construction, as well as long-term maintenance funding; and
WHEREAS, Montezuma County acknowledges its financial and legal obligations related to the trail
project, including commitments to provide local match funding and maintain the trail after construction;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE lT RESOLVED that the Board of county commissioners of Montezuma county
hereby:
1. Expresses its awareness of and support for the Paths to Mesa Verde trail project’
2. Recognizes the County’s financial and legal obligations related to the project
3. Commits to supporting the project through completion and providing long-term maintenance
4. Agrees that the trail will be under the control and jurisdiction of Montezuma County and the Colorado
Department of Transportation for at least 25 years after construction.
